Past Continuous Tense

زمن الماضي المستمر

ادرس الجمل التالية:

I was walking when it started to rain.

They were playing football at 3 o’clock yesterday.

He was sleeping when you called.

والآن نصل إلى القاعدة:

subject		verb
الفاعل		الفعل
I, He, She, It We, They, You		was were	+ (verb + ing)

الاستخدام:
يستخدم الماضي المستمر للتعبير عن فعل كان مستمراً في وقت ما في الماضي

They were doing their homework at 7 o’clock yesterday evening.

My sister was cleaning the kitchen at 5 o’clock.

يستخدم الماضي المستمر  مع الماضي البسيط للتعبير عن فعل كان مستمراً (ماضي مستمر) عندما قطعه فعل آخر (ماضي بسيط)

The doorbell rang while we were having lunch.

I was playing football when I fell down.
